About Us
We were her before
we became her guide.
Melanated Moms Travel was born from a truth we lived firsthand: the Black mom who pours into everyone around her — her kids, her household, her career — often has nothing left to pour into herself. She says "maybe next year." She books the family trips and never the solo ones. She carries the world and calls it love.
Nykea was that mom. And when she finally took that trip — when she sat by the water in a place that was just hers — something shifted. Not just the scenery. Something inside. That's the feeling she built this agency to give every Black woman who walks through our virtual door.
Dayrell saw that shift too. As a husband, a partner, and a man who believes deeply in the power of rest and restoration, he stepped in to build the business infrastructure that would make Nykea's vision real. Together, they created something the industry didn't have: a premium travel agency designed specifically for Black moms — with the cultural competence, the sisterhood energy, and the white-glove service to match.

The Heart Behind MMT
Nykea
Nykea is the voice, the vision, and the heartbeat of Melanated Moms Travel. Before she was a travel guide, she was a Black mom running on empty — managing everything for everyone, putting herself last, and wondering why rest felt so out of reach.
Her first solo trip changed everything. That experience of being fully served, fully present, and fully herself lit something in her that she knew she had to share. So she built an agency that doesn't just sell travel — it creates transformation.
Nykea handles every client with the kind of care that comes from having been exactly where they are. She speaks the language — the mom guilt, the "maybe next year," the quiet dream of a trip that's finally just for her. And she has made it her life's work to turn that dream into a departure date.
The Foundation Behind the Vision
Dayrell
Behind every great vision is someone who makes sure the infrastructure is built to match it. For MMT, that someone is Dayrell. As co-founder, he is the operational backbone of Melanated Moms Travel — ensuring the business runs with the same level of excellence that clients experience on their trips.
Dayrell's role is to make sure Nykea's vision never hits a ceiling. From building the systems and processes that allow MMT to scale, to showing up for every client experience as a supportive, knowledgeable partner — he brings the stability, strategy, and unwavering support that lets the brand operate at its highest level.
A husband who witnessed the power of rest and restoration firsthand, Dayrell is deeply invested in the mission — not as an outsider to the story, but as someone who has seen, up close, what happens when a Black woman is finally given the space to exhale.
